Te Kaunihera o Nga Neehi Māori o Aotearoa welcomes the inclusion of Tauira on the National Executive Committee (NEC). In 2015 changes were made to the Constitution to enable Tauira representation on the NEC. The following process has been developed to support the appointment of Tauira on NEC and to establish The National Tauira Committee (Te Komiti Teina) and was endorsed at the 2017 AGM and reviewed 2018.
TAUIRA MEMBERSHIP AT BRANCH LEVEL
Tauira membership to Te Kaunihera o Nga Neehi Māori o Aotearoa - National Council of Māori Nurses is twenty-three dollars per annum ($23.00 including gst). The membership fee is inclusive of the Hui a Tau registration fee, so you automatically become a member by attending the annual Hui a Tau – The National Māori Student Nurses Hui with your nursing school. Once an approved member, you will align with your local Branch for ongoing support and engagement.
REGIONAL REPRESENTATION
Tauira from each branch will be supported to meet via their school kaiako and Branch Chair to nominate their regional representative. An election process from nominations within the regional branch/es will be conducted. The elected member/s names/s will then be confirmed as the regional Tauira representative/s. The name/s of the Tauira will be sent to the National Executive Committee (NEC) via the administrator Maorinursescouncil@gmail.com.
As per the Constitution, Te Komiti Teina will consist of 10 members in total. One representative from Te Tai Tokerau, Waikato-Hauraki, Te Ikaroa-Rāwhiti, Waiariki; and two representatives from Tāmaki Makaurau, Te Tai Hauāuru and Te Tai Tonga.
TE KOMITI TEINA AND NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC) REPRESENTATION
Tauira representatives from each of the seven regions to Te Komiti Teina shall be endorsed at the annual Te Kaunihera o Nga Neehi Māori o Aotearoa - National Council of Māori Nurses Annual General Meeting.
Te Komiti Teina will consist of a Chairperson, Deputy Chair and representatives from each of the seven regions (as noted above). Te Komiti Teina will nominate and appoint a national Tauira Chair and Deputy-Chair. These two roles will sit on the NEC, attend NEC teleconferences and face to face meetings.
Te Komiti Teina will meet twice a year to discuss issues/matters relating to Tauira Neehi Maori. The cost of these meetings will be covered by NEC (with prior negotiation), one of which will be at the annual Hui a Tau – The National Māori Student Nurses Hui.
Tauira that sit on/or are a student Representative of another National Student unit/body are ineligible for nomination or selection for Te Roopu Tauira as this is a conflict of interest.
